10 Things You Should Always Have In Your Pilates Bag

We bet you didn't think of #4!

Pilates, gym bag, workout essentials

The first time I went to a Pilates class, I was a little—okay, extremely—intimidated and nervous. On one hand, a reformer machine looks eerily like some sort of torture device, and the other, I was met with the conundrum of what to wear.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the workout itself fired up my core, leg and glute muscles, without ruining my blow dry. But it’s safe to say I had no success in the wardrobe department. I made the mistake of wearing a loose tank, and spent most of the class tugging and adjusting. And I bet I’m not the only person that’s been in this position. After all, whether you’re an avid Pilates goer, dedicated yogi, or ultra-marathoner, you’d know that the right workout gear can make all the difference for your performance and confidence.

Ahead, you’ll find the tried-and-true Pilates essentials that you should always keep on hand to avoid any mishaps (like the one above!).

1A Fitted Top

Fitted tops are a must, unless you’re cool with your abs on display. Aside from offering a bit more coverage, a fitted top will also make it easier to keep an eye on your technique.

We love Charlotte Olympia Marlo Tank.

2Comfortable Tights

We’d go for tights over shorts, otherwise the whole room might see a little more than intended.

We love NBxJ.Crew High Rise Crop.

3A Sports Bra

Look for medium support and a good range of motion. It doesn’t hurt if it looks good, too 😉.

We love Lorna Jane In The Detail Sports Bra and Beloforte Beverly Bra.

4Grippy Socks

The silicone patterned bottom ensures you won’t slip on wood floors.

We love MoveActive Non-Slip Socks.

5A Water Bottle

A refillable water bottle means you’ll save money on buying water and stay hydrated.

We love Contigo Purity Petal Water Bottle.

6Facial Mist

Spray on a refreshing facial mist post-class to help reduce any redness.

We love Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle Hydrating Mist and Herbivore Botancials Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist.

7Traceless Hair Ring

Trust me, you do not want your hair getting caught in the reformer but normal elastics normally leave an unsightly kink. Opt for this unique style instead.

We love invisibobble Traceless Hair Ring.

8Hairbrush

Smooth wayward strands with a detangling brush so you’re presentable for post-Pilates coffee.

We love Dessata Hair Detangler.

9Towel

Be considerate and use a towel to wipe away beads of sweat.

We love Lululemon The (Small) Towel.

10Deodorant

Self-explanatory.

We love No Pong and Rexona Antibacterial Defence.
