Gone are the days where you reluctantly bite into your cardboard-like protein bar, lusting after the Snickers you oh-so-triumphantly resisted. Health food bars can be a great snack when you get the munchies or need an extra boost post-workout. But it’s easy to fall into the “any energy bar is a healthy bar” mentality, especially when you’re hangry. The packaging may say ‘sugar-free’ or ‘fat-free’, but you never really know what you’re getting into until you read the fine print. What’s more, you don’t know what to expect until you take your first bite. Team Sporteluxe knows all two well the struggle to find something that tastes good, and is actually good for you.

We’ve rounded up five of the best all-natural bars for that mid-morning pick-me-up, with an ingredients list you can actually pronounce, and count on one hand. Trialled and tested by Team Sporteluxe (and boy did we enjoy it), here are five delicious ‘health’ bars that are actually healthy.

An all-round office favourite, Blue Dinosaur Paleo Bars have been gaining traction lately for their ‘Lamington’ bar, that tastes just like the Aussie staple. Made with raw organic cacao and sulphur-free dessicated coconut, elite athletes and surfers have been carrying them around as a secret weapon in their sports bag. Entirely Paleo and organic, the range is definitely worth a try for your tastebuds and gets two thumbs up from us.

You can find Blue Dinosaur bars in most health food stores, or Shop Here.

Another Sporteluxe favourite is Health Lab‘s crazy tasty protein balls. Packed with natural, organic ingredients, they’re perfect for a mid afternoon pick-me-up to curb cravings and keep on the healthy bandwagon. We can’t go passed their new flavours, D-Tox Lemon (dates, almonds, whey protein, organic coconut, water and lemon oil) and Craving Cruncher Coconut (vanilla, organic coconut, whey protein, quinoa flakes).

3FUNCH

What better way to know what’s in your energy bar than if you make it yourself? DIY Paleo brand, Funch have released their own make-at-home superfood ball mixture. A nutrient-dense, turmeric, ginger and lemon combo, it’s gluten-free, guilt-free and anti-inflammatory. Just add coconut oil and your syrup of choice, roll into a ball and refrigerate for 30mins; a tasty on-the-go snack you can carry with you everywhere.

4HEALTH WARRIOR

A United States favourite, Health Warrior‘s Chia Bars are a plant-based, natural bar with chia seeds as it’s #1 ingredient. We’ve all heard of the benefits of chia seeds in our diet, so it’s no wonder it makes for a nutritious, tasty snack packed with protein and fibre.

5PURE ORGANIC

If you’re looking for some chocolate-goodness, the delectable brownie bar is an organic, vegan formula, naturally sweetened with dates and agave. Walnuts, cashews, cacao and brown rice protein are all you will find in terms of ingredients. But whatever the flavour, Pure Organic make sure their bars are all-natural, and all-delicious, all the time. We approve.
