5 body and beauty products that work

We do our fair share of product testing here at Sporteluxe HQ. From Peruvian chia seeds to dry-skin analysers – you name it, we’ve tried it. And while many have potential and others not so, from time to time, we stumble across an innovative product that really excites us. Since it can be difficult to decipher the wonderful from the woeful, we thought we’d share some of our favourite products that actually do what they claim.

Aveda, thick hair tips

  1. Aveda Invati System

Thinning hair is not just a concern for middle-aged men with glasses. In fact, it would be safe to say that everyone, male and female, lusts after thick luscious locks and dreads the day their hair begins to shed.

Advancements in medical sciences have meant we can change a lot about our physical appearance – breast implants, teeth whitening, spray tans – but thicker hair seems to be something we are yet to crack… until now.

Natural hair-care brand, Aveda has designed a three-step hair treatment known as the Aveda Invati System that prevents hair thinning and encourages growth. Unlike other chemical-laden products, Aveda innovates in botanical technologies, combining the principles of modern science with Ayurveda, the ancient healing art of India. Used in conjunction with the Aveda thickening tonic, the Invati system provides a holistic, natural and plant-based remedy for hair thinning which we are willing to put our hands up to say actually works.

  1. NutriBullet

The NutriBullet: not a juicer, a “nutrition extractor” (cue marketing gimmicks), claims to break down the cell wall of fibrous plant foods, releasing important vitamins and minerals contained within.

There was a lot of hype around the launch of the NutriBullet. It appeared multiple times on morning shows amongst the other ‘life-changing’, ‘fool-proof’ products – like the self-driven vacuum cleaner… don’t we all have one of those?

But scepticism aside, after being the proud owners of a NutriBullet for about a month now, the Sporteluxe team are willing to confess that we are completely hooked. Unlike a juicer, which struggles to break down the skin of fruits and vegetables (where all the goodness lies), the NutriBullet leaves nothing behind, allowing you to maximise your nutrition intake in the most easily digestible form. Along with the novelty of the click-to-start, the NutriBullet is also super easy to use, leaves nothing to clean and guarantees your ‘5-a-day’ in one hit.

  1. Spiral hair ties

Hair ties are every fit girl’s everyday essential. We’d never be caught during a sweat sesh without one. And I know what you’re thinking: “Hair ties – so simple, so effective. Why reinvent them?” But did you know that most standard hair ties actually damage your hair? In order to stay in, they usually strangle the strands, which pulls the roots from the scalp, causing headaches and increasing hair loss. Spiral hair ‘toggles’ are a snag-free alternative, designed to reduce the tension placed on the hair by separating it into smaller groups of strands. They are lightweight, super stretchy and guaranteed to stay in during your workout. Try one and you’ll feel the difference.

  1. Lululemon Reversible Yoga Mat

Yoga is all about balance. Balance of breath, balance of senses, and physical balance, so it is vital to have a mat that will provide enough grip for your practice. Innovators in the field, Lululemon, have created a range of ultra-absorbent reversible yoga mats that guarantee grip no matter how sweaty you get. Specifically designed to wick away sweat, they also contain an antimicrobial formula, which prevents the build up of bacteria and mould so that your mat stays fresh. You may know Sporteluxe founder Bianca Cheah is a bit of a yogi aficionado and she swears by them.

  1. Juice Cleanse

Juice cleanses bring their fair share of advocates and sceptics and at varying times the Sporteluxe team have been on both sides of the debate. But after recently doing a Lucky You juice cleanse we’d have to say that we are comfortably sitting alongside the former. We opted for the one-day cleanse, which included six nutrition-packed juices and one kick-starter morning elixir (each), and we loved it. It gave the digestive system a much-needed detox and left us feeling lighter and more vital than ever. The single day cleanse is a great reboot to the system and Lucky You’s juices ensure you’re nourished throughout the day with a mixture of healthy green juices, soothing cashew nut mylks and dense, fruity smoothies. So before writing off cleanses as a craze for a kale-drinking cult, why not try a one or two day cleanse? We’d be surprised if it doesn’t leave you with an extra spring in your step.
