With the Christmas break just around the corner (scary, I know), a spontaneous holiday in your own city is just what the doctor ordered. It could be the perfect opportunity to explore and discover places you wouldn’t normally think about. Yes, we’re talking about the ‘staycation’. The advantage of this kind of holiday is that you won’t have to break the bank paying for flights like you would on an overseas trip. Best of all, you may even discover something new about your own city.
Amazing holiday locations that don’t cost a fortune
1. Diamond Beach
Diamond Beach is one of the most pristine beaches on the NSW coast. Six kilometres long with a peaceful atmosphere, frolicking dolphins are never far. Not to mention, it’s only a 20 minute drive from Forster. We suggest looking for the many resorts and cottages that fill the surrounding area, either through the local real estate agents or Airbnb.
Mollymook is friendly and relaxed coastal town situated between Ulladulla and Milton in NSW. It boasts an inviting beach that stretches for two kilometres and also offers snorkeling and diving amongst the popular surfing spots. For food, you can’t go past Rick Stein at Bannisters for local oysters and fresh seafood. But, if you’re not a fan of seafood, Tallwood is a must-visit.
3. Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsular is the perfect place to escape to on a last minute holiday. Brimming with art galleries and museums, the Penisula has a laid back vibe. If you’re looking for a bit of adventure, Gunnamatta Trail Rides let you take to horseback along the white sandy beaches. If you prefer to have both feet on the ground there are plenty of walking tracks. As for accommodation, there is a range of coastal cottages and romantic stays for every kind of traveler – just ask the local real estate or enquire at Airbnb.
Nestled on the coast in the Margaret River region of WA, Yallingup offers the perfect getaway. The beaches are excellent for surfing, and there’s also a tranquil lagoon ideal for snorkeling. In addition, there are plenty of walking tracks that trail along the beautiful coastline. With plenty of wineries also in the area, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
If you really don’t want to venture far (we don’t blame you!), head to a boutique hotel for an indulgent escape. Nestled away in the inner city streets of Brisbane, Spicers Balfour Hotel features a mix of vintage and designer décor (and a rooftop bar!), making it a perfect option. Meanwhile, if you travel further north you’ll find endless staycation options along the Sunshine Coast.
