This year marks the Gold Coast’s 14th year opening the season for the elite WSL Championship tour with the Quicksilver and Roxy Pro. Sporteluxe flew up to cover all the action. Here’s a wrap up of all that went on!

Boardriders opening party at the #RoxyPro

On the eve of the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast, Quicksilver launched their new store ‘Boardriders’ in Coolangatta. The Boardriders concept store is the first of its kind in Australia, showcasing a unique blend of surf, skate, snowboard, lifestyle and art. What better way could there be to start the tour with the official opening celebrations of an awesome new store!

Fans and followers had the chance to meet their surfing idols at the athlete signing session hosted in store Friday afternoon, with key Quicksilver and Roxy athletes including Stephanie Gilmore and Dane Reynolds meeting and greeting fans. After having a tour around the store, we were treated to some live music as LeeAnn Curren’s band Betty the Shark and Brisbane collective Orphans Orphans took to the stage and set the vibe for an epic two weeks of surf action on the Gold Coast.

Adjacent to the store is a chilled out terrace bar offering a menu of fresh and organic treats, as well as coffee, smoothies and delicious afternoon drinks and dinner options. The store even hosts weekly in store yoga classes and live performances from local bands!

Yoga at the #RoxyPro

On the first day of competition at the Roxy Pro at Snapper rocks, the morning kicked off early with some much needed yoga on the beach. Roxy team riders Kelia Moniz and Monyca Eleogram joined over 60 people to stretch it out on the beautiful sands of Rainbow Bay. The sun was shining, the tunes were pumping as participants got their downward dog on using their new Roxy yoga mats. Gold Coast local, Crystal O’Rourke led the group through a series of poses to wake up the body and bring the alignment and strength needed for the long week of surfing ahead at the #ROXYPro.

After yoga, all the participants sipped on refreshing cold pressed juices from Organic Avenue and delicious Blue Dinosaur Paleo bars to power them through the rest of the day as the #ROXYpro commenced at Snapper Rocks.

Roxy Celebrates 25 years of style!

On the first official day of competition on the Gold Coast, Roxy threw an epic birthday beach bash to celebrate their impressive milestone of 25 years. With the sun setting just meters away over the Pacific, we were treated to a few poolside cocktails as we soaked up another perfect evening in Coolangatta. The party kicked off with an exciting fashion parade showcasing Roxy’s latest POPsurf collection, we were also treated to an exclusive preview to next season’s range, which will be released later in the year. We can’t wait!

Roxy then brought out an impressive birthday cake and everyone sung happy birthday to celebrate all that Roxy has come to stand for over the last 25 years. Gorgeous (and talented) Roxy ambassadors including 6 x world champion Stephanie Gilmore, Lisa Andersen and Kelia Moniz all joined in the festivities. All in all, it was a perfect weekend of surfing, sporty fashion and celebration!
