A few days ago, a withered, wrinkled-faced Drew Barrymore appeared in my Instagram feed. It wasn’t an unfamiliar image, as I’ve seen her play the part before and yet, this time, it was different. It looked more like the work of Aging Booth than a professional makeup artist.
At 42, the actress is known for her youthful, clear complexion, so when she took to social media to reveal her beauty secrets it’s no surprise that it went viral. This post, in particular, caused quite a stir but surprisingly, it was the caption (not the image) that was gaining attention. In the comments, Barrymore credits this strange face mask, the Hanacure All-In-One Facial for making her look ten years younger.
“When you take it off you are 10 years younger. You paint it on with a brush. It starts to dry. It pulls. It gets so tight that it literally pulls your face. See above. But, it makes you look so fresh when you wash it off. And it’s so effective. How fun is that in a package? #notttooenvasivebeauty #kbeauty” she wrote.
The creepy face mask is the debut product from a new South-Korean brand, Hanacure. It was developed as a multitasker, to simplify a woman’s skin care regime, and claimed by its website—and confirmed by Barrymore and hundreds of zombi-like faces on Instagram—it literally does it all.
How it works: The Hanacure All-In-One Facial is like a facelift sans injections. According to the company, it combines “botanicals”—such as lotus leaf extract, oriental raisin tree extract, green tea extract and honeysuckle flower extract—that soothe the skin, with “peptides” that promote collagen production to create its proprietary formulation, the Purifying Compound. When applied to the skin, the compound is said to absorb impurities, toxins, and other contaminants. Then, the CO2 OctoLift™ (its patented technology) fuses the Purifying Compound with carbon dioxide in the air to literally lift and firm the skin.
But it’s not just anti-ageing. This miracle mask is said to reduce pigmentation and pores as well as wrinkles. It also claims to brighten the skin and, according to advocates on Instagram, it significantly improves acne.
The kit includes three items—a lifting serum, a gelling solution and a brush. The former are combined to create a mixture that resembles a jelly-like slime. Using the brush, this is then painted on the face and left to dry for about 30 minutes (just enough time for you to catch up on your latest Netflix obsession).
For the next half an hour, emotion is off limits. But seriously, Hanacure recommends you make minimal movements to keep the mask taut and effective. If you have an itch, the brand suggests fanning yourself—it may even speed up the drying process. After the allotted 30 minutes, the facial is rinsed off, not peeled, leaving the skin soft and smooth.
Along with the celebrity love, Hanacure shares users’ results on a separate Instagram feed, @HanacureEffect, where the before-and-after shots are as impressive as a BBG #TransformationTuesday. Don’t believe me? Scroll down to check out some of the best (or worst, depending on how you look at it).
@noey_and_zoa – I’m a pretty big skeptic when it comes to skin care products and I research the hell out of any product before I try it. But a few weeks ago @drewbarrymore Posted a pic of her using this mask the Hana cure and I immediately went and bought it. 1) because I love her duh and 2) because it’s been a while since I’ve tried a mask out. Plus the packaging totally sold me. I waited til my kids were sleeping and then I tried it tonight and I’m OBSESSED. Scroll through for more pics. I am a SUCKER for a good face mask. Look how it distorts my face cause it’s pulling so much! My face is red and tingling right now after I removed it, but I’m excited to see how it looks tomorrow! @thehanacure ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Clarifying with @thehanacure Hanacure is by far the most amazing skincare line I am yet to use. The difference I saw in my skin immediately after the first mask was beyond belief. My skin never glowed so brightly, my smile lines almost completely disappeared! Being an acne sufferer for so many years, it’s a blessing to find anything even close to being helpful, my scars visibly started to disappeared after just a couple of masks. Absolutely astonished by these products is an understatement to say the least. Targeting so many different problems at once, it’s a miracle mask. – Lala Daly @itslaladaly #hanacureeffect #beauty #skincare #mask #thehanacure #beforeandafter #11masks
