Meet Sjana Earp (@sjanaelise)
First of all…how do you pronounce your name?
See – ah – nah (rhymes with sultana)… the silent “J” is a bit cheeky and is actually pronounced like the “y” in yacht.
You seem extremely well travelled – where was your favourite destination and why?
The Bahamas and Hawaii are definitely my favourite travel destinations so far! There is something about Hawaii that I have always felt magnetised to – even before I went there! And the Bahamas is just indescribably wonderful – the climate, the scenery, the quiet, the turquoise waters, the people. However, there is certainly no place like home – Australia will always be my favourite place in the world!
Do you have any strange travel experiences?
What is your favourite thing to do/explore/try in a new place?
Getting lost! I love getting “lost” in a new city or place, whether it be walking, bike riding, catching a ferry or even getting a taxi and asking them to take me somewhere they think is good. I find that the more lost I get, the more I can connect with a new place. If you wander aimlessly you always end up finding a whole heap of magic.
How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?
I won’t lie, I’m very fortunate to be able to do what I love as a job! There is a very fine line between work and play for me. Even if there is something I have to do that I am not too stoked about, I find things in it that I like. I change my attitude and think of the things that I do find enjoyable or I think of the sense of fulfilment and success it will bring me or the help it could bring to others. I feel like having a positive attitude is the best way to cure most ills in the world.
What would you find in your travel bag?
Lip balm, a pen, portable phone charging battery pack, camera, GoPro, and a taste for adventure!
What do you like to do to switch off?
YOGA, SEA AND SUNSHINE! I find them freeing, relaxing, rejuvenating and revitalising.
Is there a certain time of day you take photos or are you always photo-ready?
Anytime from sunrise to sunset. I prefer my images to be full of light and colour so I generally avoid night time shots. I don’t care too much about make-up or hair though, so I’m always ready for a snapshot if need be!
Hawaii, here I come!! 🙈 although i’ve never been to Hawaii, i’ve always felt that if I go – I will never leave.. (I have to leave bc i an going back to LA, then the snow, then Africa for a month.. But I think i’ll go back after haha) I already have such a strong connection to the land, the energy and spirituality Hawaii has! If I had another life, I definitely lived there! I’m SO excited!! 😊☺️☺️☺️☀️☀️☀️🙉 ps new youtube video: america travel vlog (link in bio) 💛 A photo posted by Sjana Elise Earp (@sjanaelise) on
How do you handle bullying/trolls online?
I don’t tolerate any kind of bullying… not toward myself or anyone else. I don’t get many, but when the occasional Negative Nancy does appear on my online accounts I simply block and remove their comments. My accounts are a place for positivity, empowerment and happiness, not negativity and criticism! Bullying is something I feel incredibly deeply about and want to help others realise their own value is not defined by someone else’s inability to see their worth.
How did you get to where you are today?
This is such a hard question to answer! I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. In saying that, I’m not too sure how I got to where I am, nor where I am going exactly for that matter. It doesn’t make sense to me just yet, but I have faith that one day it will. Until then, I’m just going with the flow and am open to opportunities, friendships and experiences to make the most out of life. Having this kind of flexibility and care-free mindset, I think, makes me a little bit stronger and more resilient. I like the saying, “I bend so I do not break”.
What is your ultimate guilty pleasure?
Coconut water! I drink SOOOO much of it – litres and litres a day. It’s a good habit to have as an addiction I suppose, in terms of health, but it can quickly take a chunk out of your wallet haha!
Saying I have an addiction is a terrible understatament.. THIS is our second fridge.. Stacked top to bottom with @jtscoconutessence 🙈 it’s actually next level ridiculous how much I love and consume/use all things coconut.. Coconut oil, coconut chips, coconut body wash, coconut body butter, coconut scent, coconut milk, coconut cream, coconut water, coconut meat.. Loco for the coco I tell you!! I think I should just turn into a coconut already 🙊
What are three foods you couldn’t live without?
My favourite foods at the moment are probably berries, mango and a gnarly roasted pumpkin salad!
If you weren’t travel blogging what would you be doing?
Probably still lifeguarding or perhaps I would have been an advice columnist – who knows!
Who is the most influential figure in your life?
My entire family! My family will always be the most important people in my life, so naturally their opinions will be the ones I care about and am influenced or inspired by. I will always ensure the things I do are aligned with their values. I love my family to bits and everything I ever achieve is solely because of their support, guidance and belief in me as an individual.
Is there a daily mantra you live your life by?
I just recently found a new favourite! A man asked Gautama Buddha, “I want happiness.” Buddha said, “First remove ‘I,’ that’s Ego, then remove ‘want,’ that’s Desire. See now you are left with only “Happiness” – Gautama Buddha
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“You’ll only regret the things you DIDN’T do!”
Why is being fit so important to you?
Being fit is so important to me for the way it FEELS! It’s pivotal for our overall health and wellbeing that we are active and feel strong, confident, happy and to release endorphins. Doing good for our body, respecting it, staying active, being mindful, giving back, forgiving yourself, and rest and relaxation are all essential to our wholesome wellbeing.
What swimwear do you love at the moment?
Anything cheeky! I’m the world’s number one fan of a brief/cheeky bottom and a simple unpadded triangle top. I mostly just look for comfort, stay-ability and whatever bikinis have the least material so I get minimal tan lines.
What travel plans do you have for the future?
My travel plans are boundless. I want to go to every single corner of this world and I’m being serious! I have such a deep adoration for travel that I think I will honestly have a love affair with it for the rest of my life.
Has your dog helped your health and wellbeing? If so, how?
Definitely! It’s undeniable that having someone or something to take care of and nurture gives you the same love and care in return. My puppy (he’s not really a puppy anymore – he’s a 4yr old husky, but he will always be my baby boy) has given me so much more than I could ever give him. And I feel like there is no way to accurately explain that to someone else. It’s just the kind of incredible and indescribable bond dogs can have with their humans.
Just touched back down in the land down under after spending 6 weeks around North America!! Can’t wait to squeeze my family and have my face lick-attacked by my beautiful puppy! 🙈🙈🙈 p.s i have absolutely NO voice.. At all! Time to be more receptive and simply listen for a while 😊 although losing my voice isn’t exactly convenient, I always learn so much when I am forced to interact and communicate differently with people 😊
If we were to look inside your fridge right now what would we find? Be honest.
I’m proud to say a whole heap of fresh goodness. Countless leafy greens, fruits and vegetables.
Fall in love with taking care of yourself.. Body, mind and spirit 💛 @speedoscafe A photo posted by Sjana Elise Earp (@sjanaelise) on
What is one thing your followers might not know about you?
I actually have TWO older brothers! Sam, the one my followers would know already and Josh, the 24yr old Bear Grylls look-a-like! He’s the kindest, most spirited human you will ever meet.
Where and how will you be spending this summer?
At home! I’m spending Christmas and New Years season at home with my family and friends. It’s been quite a long time since I’ve stayed in the same place for longer than a week so I’m really excited.
