Meet yoga guru Kate Kendall

I’m sure most of you have heard of Australian yoga guru, Kate Kendall. She’s the blonde bombshell who regularly graces our website (or your Instagram feed) sharing her pearls of yoga wisdom and impressive poses. Not to mention she’s also the co-founder and director of yoga at Sydney’s premier boutique fitness studio, Flow Athletic. An incredibly accomplished yoga instructor, Kate is the picture of glowing health, but there’s more than meets eye. Here’s your chance to get to know the inspiring, business savvy (and flexible) woman herself – beyond the yoga mat.

Meet Kate Kendall

First three things I do when I wake up:

Big drink of water. Clean my teeth. Meditate.

Last thing I do at night:

Lately I’ll read a passage from the Tao Te Ching – reminds me to live with ease.

Most people probably don’t know this about me, but:

I grew up in a small country town in NSW called Batlow – famous for apples.

Best piece of advice I’ve ever received:

“Go big – build it and they will come.” And “Do it. Let’s just see what happens.”

Workout I’m currently obsessed with:

30mins of running (including stairs in Rushcutters Bay park) followed by 30mins of yoga and a sneaky little meditation at the end to seal the deal.

My food philosophy in two sentences:

Clean and close to nature with a dash of nectar here and there (usually in the form of sesame snaps – my weakness)

Best meal I’ve ever eaten:

Crab Omelette at The Pier (which used to be in Rose Bay) – I’ve never experienced a taste sensation quite like it since.

If sugar were a superfood, my diet would consist of:

Sesame Snaps and wine.

I never leave home without:

A water bottle

My favourite holiday destination is:

Kauai, Hawaii

My favourite emoji is:

The little palm tree – reminds me to chill.

Three must-follow Instagram accounts:

@helloemilie @mysimplegram @chelseakauai

Favourite healthy restaurant I’m obsessed with:

At the moment it’s The Plant Gallery in Bondi.

The one place I’d never wear yoga pants:

I literally can’t think of one place that yoga pants aren’t appropriate…

Who would play me in a movie:

Blake Lively. She’s smart, quick witted and good looking – they usually stretch the truth in movies anyway, right?

I’m inspired by:

Anyone who is following their dreams; people who unashamedly speak their truth; anyone that gives me a good belly laugh.

My current mantra:

Stillness is a superpower. I think it’s the most under utilised tool we have for purpose, passion and producticity.

My pet peeve is:

I’m a big NRL and AFL fan and I hate when the players spit on the ground. I can’t help but think how much of that stuff ends up on their clothing. Maybe they need to pay someone to run around with a spit bucket…
