Sports fans will probably know Roz Kelly from her former role as Channel 9’s ace sports reporter. However, after falling in love with South African cricket star Morne Morkel, the gorgeous brunette resigned from her high flying (and high-stress) TV career gig at the end of last year and made the move to Cape Town.
Roz is now a freelance TV journalist and carving out a new career based around one of other great loves, wellness, as a holistic health coach. She also shares her wellness journey through her beautiful blog RozKelly.com.au. We asked the self-confessed “health and wellness geek” to give us the lowdown on her new home.
“My new home, Cape Town, is the wellness hub of South Africa,” says Roz. “It has such a fantastic energy and vibrancy with the city built around Table Mountain, one of the seven wonders of nature. Everywhere you turn you are surrounded by nature and beauty. These are my favourite healthy Cape Town hotspots and hangouts. The great news for Aussie travellers is that the exchange rate makes all food and services very cheap!”
“Well away from the tourist strips in the leafy suburb of Constantia, arriving here feels like you are stepping into someone’s house for lunch. The cafe is actually an old house and all the produce they serve comes straight from the organic garden in the backyard which you can wander around after your meal. They also serve organic meat and burgers, that’s how I get my fiancé there!”
“A funky little hole-in-the-wall vegan cafe in the heart of the city. The menu is small but ever changing and delicious.”
“This vibrant cold-pressed organic juice bar is right in the city centre. A great place to swing by and stock up on juice and salad before a road trip or hike.”
“Green heaven on earth! This is a small organic, volunteer-run farm on the edge of the city, with stunning ocean views. They hold a fresh food market every Saturday where you can stroll through the garden, buy fresh produce and all sorts of delicious natural, healthy meals and treats. A great place to sit in the sun for a relaxed picnic.”
“If you are spending a bit of time in Cape Town and want to meet like-minded people then this is something to get involved in! The Rawlicious Tribe is run by super husband and wife, Peter and Beryn Daniel, the leaders in the raw diet revolution and holistic health in South Africa. They hold regular free talks all over Cape Town that are fun and super educational. Plus, they serve raw pizza and green shakes! Lots of fun for a health nerd!”
“An enchanted garden at the base of Table Mountain. A magical place where you can explore the beautiful gardens or lie on the spongy grass in the sun and read or have a picnic with friends.”
“You can take the cable cart or go the long way and walk up the mountain. Trust me the spectacular view will be worth the climb! It’s best to go with a guide because it can be a bit rough in places. Another amazing self-guided walk is Table Mountain’s smaller neighbour, Lions Head.”
“Blissful facials and body treatments using certified organic products in the quiet suburb of Newlands. Fantastic value too!”
“This health store is located at most major shopping areas and is great for stocking up on healthy snacks while sightseeing.”
