Six steps to inner happiness

Do you sometimes feel held back in your life by patterns of fear, self-sabotage and old limiting beliefs? If you want to live the life of your dreams, you have to clear out these blocks and replace them with more supportive and positive patterns.

Most of us have no idea how to even begin doing this. So here are six steps to support you in starting your own inner transformation.

1     Reflect on where you are at

Start with a little inner inventory of what is going on with you at the moment. You can look at a range of areas including your belief systems, your thoughts, how you feel about yourself and the quality of your self-talk. Pull out your journal and reflect on these areas.

2     Decide what you want to let go of

As you do your inner inventory, take note of anything that isn’t supportive and that you want to let go of. Get honest with yourself and find the courage to face what isn’t working head on. Are there any limiting beliefs that are holding you back? Old habits that are sabotaging your goals? Feelings of negativity or inadequacy. Or perhaps thoughts that go round in your head which make you feel awful?

3     Choose your new ways of being

Look at each of the old patterns and think about what you would love to experience instead. Say you uncover a limiting belief about not feeling deserving of success, what would you want to believe instead? If you tend to focus only on your flaws, what would you rather direct your energy towards? Write out all of the new ways of thinking, acting, feeling and speaking you would love to take on board.

4     Pick two or three supportive practices and commit to them

Now it is time to choose some key practices that will support your happiness. Rather than trying to do it all at once and getting overwhelmed, start small. You may want to commit to a five minute practice of meditation a day, daily yoga or even an evening practice of gratitude journaling.

5     Track your progress

Spend a little time each day reviewing how you are going with your new practices and habits. Celebrate your success and acknowledge yourself when you do well. Journal about your achievements. Reflect on key lessons and learn from any trip ups you have along the way.

6     Get support

Surround yourself with positive people who will uplift and encourage you. You may want to share in the journey with friends, hire a life coach, join on online community or attend events and workshops where like-minded inspiring people hang out. You can also surround yourself with positivity by reading uplifting blogs, watching inspiring videos or listening to podcasts.
