Unless you’re Frida Kahlo or a member of the opposite sex, facial hair isn’t really something most of us can pull off. In today’s society, going bare on our legs, lady garden, underarms and facial moustaches is now almost as common as brushing your teeth or taking a shower! But there’s no denying that de-fuzzing comes at a price. Not only does waxing or laser cost an arm and a leg, there a plenty of unwanted side effects too! Hello, hives, pimples, and skin peeling!

But what if I told you there was a treatment that offers something less painful that’s 100% natural and guaranteed to not give you those unwanted after effects? Now I’ve got your attention!

A week ago, I literally bumped into a salon offering a new style of hair removal in Santa Monica called Sugaring LA. Yup, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Sugaring is 100% natural and biodegradable and even dates back to the Egyptians (where have I been?). It’s the most gentle, natural and long lasting treatment that eliminates unwanted hair from all areas of the body for men and women.

It’s for all skin types, hair textures and skin sensitivities and the method only uses water, lemon, and sugar. It’s so natural that I was literally licking it off my face when in my treatment! This age old method exfoliates the dead skin cells and removes the hair in its natural direction of the growth, eliminating breakage and ingrown hairs. This makes it possible to remove hair as short as 1/8 inch when sugaring frequently. Now that’s music to my ears! Nobody wants stubble, especially on their upper lip (which is where I got this treatment done).

Sugaring is more than just a hair removal method, it’s also a light exfoliant (this helps reduce the chance of rash and redness). Our paste adheres only to the hair and dead skin cells, minimizing any redness or discomfort after treatment. This is one of the main differences between sugaring and waxing: while wax bonds to both the hair follicles and surrounding skin area, the sugaring paste doesn’t pull on or irritate the skin.

It was short and not as painful as waxing and certainly not as excruciating as laser! I walked in, she wiped down my lip, rolled the sticky blob of sugar back and forth onto my lip and pulled it off in patches. Boom, it was over in all of a matter of five minutes. $21 dollars later, hello smooth lip! And the best bit, I don’t have to go back for another 45 days. It’s been two weeks now and my upper lip is bump-free, pimple-free (which I often got when using wax) and stubble-free.

Would I recommend? Absolutely, because it’s better for your skin, doesn’t leave a sticky residue, lasts longer and is organic and natural! I say win, win!
