The beauty to a good nights sleep

Getting your eight hours of beauty sleep is all well and good. But, by adding one simple step to your skincare regimen before you crawl under the covers, you can wake up to the complexion of your dreams.

“Night time is the optimal time to support skin to maximise existing natural processes that occur in skin,” says Dr Nadine Pernodet, Executive Director of Skin Biology, Research & Development at The Estée Lauder Companies. “[This is] because skin is not trying to fight off all the external aggressors at the same time, such as during the day.” Pernodet says the skin is more receptive to receive ingredients that help it to repair itself naturally. “It is also the best time for the body to relax, rest and refresh itself to better prepare for the next day,” she says.

Catabolysis is a natural purification process that helps skin cells eliminate internal debris that can cause cellular damage. Since 2007, Estée Lauder scientists have been researching this new form of cellular purification and they have determined that catabolysis is synchronised to peak at night; making night-specific creams essential while you sleep.

Here, we reveal the power and potency behind these new night formulas…
