To the absolute credit of its founder Patreece Botheras, duskii really was an overnight success story, having been picked up by a host of global retailers, including giants Net-A-Porter and Shopbop, and featured by supermodel Doutzen Kroes on the cover of ELLE France before the brand’s first birthday!

We spoke to the Patreece about the hot new collection (out now), how to care for neoprene swimwear, the lead up to the brand’s debut on the New York Fashion Week runway next month, and which celebrity she’s been most excited to see wearing her designs…

Sporteluxe chats to Duskii all things neoprene and fashion

Sporteluxe: Can you talk a little about the theme of this new Spring/Summer 15/16 collection?

Patreece: “The new collection is inspired by the sophistication of European summer. Think relaxed seaside culture, the crystal blues of the Mediterranean Sea and a luxury yacht lifestyle-duskii offers suits and separates that epitomise glamour in and out of water.”

Duskii designerQ: Your new (second) collection has been hotly anticipated since the runaway success of your first. How have the pieces or direction evolved?

“We have expanded the second collection to include “duskii Splash”, which is a swim collection of fun retro inspired two piece neoprene suits. We have also expanded on what was a success in the first season and added sleek metallic silver and pops of summer colours. We have listened to our customers and existing duskii girls in what they would like to see.”

Q: What’s the best way to care for duskii swimwear, given its unique neoprene fabric?

“Cold water rinse is perfect, best to dry flat. Avoid the washing machine.”

Q: How do you feel about the Fashion Palette inclusion and what do you hope to be the outcome of being showcased there?

[Next month, Patreece will travel to New York Fashion Week to take part in an Australian fashion initiative called Fashion Palette, a runway show featuring duskii as the only activewear brand alongside 20 other Aussie designers.]

“So very excited to be a part of FPNYFW, and to showcase our collection in New York beside some incredible Australian designers. It would be amazing to secure some new stockists in the USA and international markets.”

Duskii red, neoprene swimwearQ: Your duskii pieces are functional, but universally figure-flattering too. Was that something you were conscious of achieving when designing?

“Yes, definitely this was our main aim. Superb fit is essential for sophisticated elegance. We have incorporated all the crucial ingredients to ensure your body is hugged in all the right places. Our Structured panels, all-way stretch neoprene and strategically placed grip-perform meticulously to hold us up in the right places!”

Q: Who have you been most excited to have seen wearing duskii to date?

“We love seeing everyone in duskii from gorgeous Aussie girls Robyn Lawley, Jesinta Campbell, Elyse Taylor, Teresa Palmer and Bianca Cheah, to Ashley Graham and Doutzen Kroes – and of course the water-loving every day active girl!

Q: What’s your favourite piece in the new collection and why?

“I personally love the Saint Tropez story. My favourite colour is red and in particular the beautiful vibrant scarlet red we have used. I love the navy stripes. This collection oozes summer on the med!”
