Cool, wholesome and totally plant-based—that’s the premise of Virtuous Pie, a new vegan eatery that has opened its doors in Portland’s Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood.
Following on from the success of their first restaurant in Vancouver, the fast-casual spot seeks to cater for plant-based eaters and health-conscious carnivores alike. As Executive Chef, Jim Vesal explains, “Portland is an important food city, with an establish and vibrant vegan community. However, at Virtuous Pie, we want to change the way people eat, not just in Portland or Vancouver, but across the continent. People are becoming increasingly consientious about their eating habits and how it affects the environemnt, and we want to be a part of the movement towards more mindful eating.”
From handcrafted pizzas to artisian dairy-free ice cream (charcoal banana coconut, anyone?), the sustainable and locally-influenced menu delivers vegan food that’s far from boring. Think unique pizza flavor pairings using three-day dough and house-made nut cheeses, including cashew mozzarella, almond ricotta and non-GMO tofu feta, as well as house-made gluten-free waffle cones, affogato, ice cream sandwiches and kombucha ice cream floats.
And to wash it all down, hit up a glass (or bottle, depending on your mood) of craft beer, kombucha, cider or wine. Or opt a drip coffee (courtesy of Heart Coffee Roasters) with house-made dairy-free milk.
In addition to some of the tastiest and on-trend dishes in Portland, Virtuous Pie boasts a modern and spacious setting, complete with reclaimed Douglas Fir beams, custom hand drawn wallpaper, eclectic furniture and a communal dining area. Nice!
