You heard it here first: Nike’s LunarEpic Flyknit is a game-changer. They’re quite possibly Nike’s most innovative running shoe yet. Some have even said that they can make you feel like you could run forever. And let’s be honest, they look pretty epic, too.
Here’s the lowdown
According to Nike, the technology embedded in this sneaker-sock hybrid is revolutionary, offering a virtually unnoticeable fit, fluid feel and superior softness.
But do they really live up to the epic hype? We decided to put these babies to the test, one of epic proportions.
Tried, Tested & True: Nike’s LunarEpic Flyknit
Firstly, the lightweight, breathable one-piece upper has been designed for precise support where you need it most; a bit like compression sportswear. Meanwhile, the mid-height collar (read: the sock-like part) is designed to act like a natural extension of your leg, providing a close, dynamic fit, without restricting movement. It’s what the designers like to call a ‘virtually vanishing fit.’
“I’ll admit, when I first took them out of the box I was a little sceptical about the sock-like extension, unsure of whether it was just part of the design or a tech innovation. But after going for a run in them, I realised they were a spot on tech feature and I can honestly say that they felt a lot more secure than any other running shoe I’ve worn before. I really felt like I could run forever in these shoes,” says Bianca.
Next up is the soft, contoured midsole, which provides the perfect amount of flexibility, allowing the shoe to move with you while you run. We’re talking a super plush ride.
And last, but very not least, the sole. While the upper may have captured your attention and Bianca’s, it’s what’s happening underfoot that is truly unique. The sole makes for surprisingly good traction on a myriad of surfaces, from road to dirt and rock, and also helps to absorb impact while dispersing it more evenly across your foot. In simpler terms, expect targeted cushioning and superb softness.
“It’s a little hard to explain how these actually felt, possibly because they are so weightless. However, I did notice that the shoe really did move with me. My foot felt stable on the ground, and that there was an air of bounce in my stride. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t want that?” continues Bianca.
All of these high-tech elements combined have created an incredibly versatile shoe that is ideal for runners tackling a distance workout, progression run or recovery run.
And with running elite already on board, there’s no time like the present to grab a pair for yourself.
“I love them that much that I’m currently online trying to find a black pair.” says Bianca.
There’s so much energy in these shoes that it felt so natural. Overall, they’re a fantastic shoe for anyone who loves to run.
Hmmmm, what I didn’t like was the optional; extra inner sole that came with the shoe. I guess for me, since having such a wide foot, I didn’t need the extra height or width. I found it was a little tight when running, but without the extra sole my foot and run was spot on.
A dedicated feature for Nike.
