Braids are back at New York Fashion Week

Braids are emerging as one of the biggest hair trends from New York Fashion Week. Watching the runway presentations is giving us plenty of inspo for hair looks that can transition from gym to boardroom or brunch with friends, no sweat. From elegant and slicked back to messy and deconstructed, there’s a braid to suit everyone and every workout!

For a fresh gym look take inspiration from the dual textured fish braids as seen at Suno. This super-easy do plays with the idea of contrasting textures: slicked back hair from the top and a messy deconstructed fish braid at the bottom. Comb gel through the roots and work through, leaving the mid-lengths and ends dry. Braid hair to ends and simply pull apart for an effortless look.

It doesn’t get more low-maintenance than a hairstyle you can achieve without a brush! Perfect for an after-work yoga class and an undone dinner look afterwards. Simply comb through hair with your fingers and use dry shampoo to create a matte texture. Up the prettiness factor by pulling out a few tendrils at the front.

The sleek braids at Peter Som are ideal for more intense workouts like HIIT or your lunch hour run. Slick hair back at the top and sides with mousse before braiding. This look is practical and effective, plus you’ll be able to disguise your sweaty post-run hair when you need to go back to the office afterwards. Bonus!
