Teisha Lowry glows from the inside out. The Melbourne-based model is the founder of the gorgeous organic beauty brand INDAH. The range is based around coconut oil, with heavenly body balms and solid perfumes that leave you smelling like you’ve just stepped out of a luxe day spa. If that wasn’t impressive enough Teisha also runs a successful holistic lifestyle coaching business called Queen Coco. Despite her busy schedule, Teisha makes self-care a top priority. This means nourishing herself with wholefoods, moving her body with functional fitness and yoga, practising daily meditation and spending quality time with her equally health-conscious fiancé Darren Cox. Let’s take a peek into Teisha’s stylish world of wellness.
Most mornings I wake up early and have my daily dose of INDAH Coconut Oil and my Queen Coco Yang Tea. I then head to Total Reformation Health & Wellbeing, the holistic health studio I share with Darren, for a work-in session such as yoga, Qigong or Pilates. Or I’ll do a workout at the studio, which consists mainly of interval and resistance training. Afterwards, I eat a massive breakfast according to my metabolic type, this morning was pork and plum free range organic sausages, quinoa and shredded coconut and veggies. I then spend the rest of my day seeing my amazing clients, going to meetings or shooting stuff for my Queen Coco Blog and my other TV commitments.
My health means everything to me. It’s the most important value I have. If I’m not healthy, I’m not at peak potential. I’m tired, grumpy and lethargic and this rubs off onto the people around me. I need to be at my best every single day so I can carry out my legacy at 110%.
I do relaxation work on my whole body almost every day. This includes lots of breathing and movements that are slow yet energising. I also meditate daily. I drink loads of pure water with a pinch of Pink Himalayan Salt and INDAH Coconut Oil. I eat according to my metabolic type. I stick to a gluten-free, sugar-free, GMO-free, free-range, real food and organic diet. There are some occasions where I can’t be perfect but I do my best and make the right decisions when I can. I exercise every day, except maybe Sundays, but that day is for rest and repair.
I never used to cook, but I have been getting right into it over the last year or so. My fiancé Darren is the biggest health nut; he’s a Metabolic Typing Advisor and Function Diagnostic Practitioner. So he likes to take over the reins in the kitchen. I’m very creative when it comes to food and my dishes are very Asian-inspired. I love making soups, laksa, fish dishes, salads, juices and smoothies.
You may have guessed it already, but I can’t live without my coconut oil! I go through a jar every week. I use it for pure energy, hydration, hair and beauty treatments.
My training is kind of rare. I use primal and functional movements. Plus, I’m flexible, so I need to add lots of strength training, stability, stretching and breathing to my exercise regime to get the best results. To strengthen muscles, and make me look long and lean, not bulky, I work on multi-joint free weight exercises. So that means lots of lunges, squats and dead lifts. Bent over rows using elastics and upright rows using a TRX. Free weights using kettlebells and dumbbells over an exercise ball for added stability. Then finishing off with push-ups, chin-ups (yikes!) dips, jumping, hopping plyometric-style and core work.
I’m not into sweet stuff and don’t care for chocolate much. My biggest vice would be organic popcorn cooked in Celtic sea salt, INDAH Coconut Oil and loads of free-range organic butter!
I usually make my own beauty creams, oils and scrubs at home. The base of all my formulas is coconut oil. Sorry to harp on about it, but it’s the very essence of my brand INDAH and me. I’ve been using it for the last seven years, and my skin always gets amazing compliments. I think it comes down to a healthy lifestyle, my metabolic type diet and hydration. Something most of my clients struggle to understand is that taking time out for yourself each day is vital for complete health and wellbeing. Here are some little tips that may help along the way:
On a daily basis I try and practice my awareness of being and living right now. I try to not focus on yesterday or tomorrow. This is really hard, especially for somebody who runs their own business, but you can do it. You just need to remind yourself that everything will ok. Think of today and what small things you can do to break through anything. Reflect on the small wins and how they can create extraordinary things and transform this energy into something of value. Concentrating on living like this is very liberating; you’re no longer afraid and no longer a victim.
I love fashion but I usually just invest in gym and lounge wear. Ever since I was a girl and I got my first pay cheque at the age of 12, I saved up for my first pair of Adidas shell-toe runners. I was always into wearing Adidas. I don’t know what it was but I think it stemmed from watching Run–D.M.C video clips on Rage! Today, I still like to indulge in this brand, mainly shorts and crop tops. Ask anybody who knows me! Every birthday people know exactly what to get me – Adidas vouchers!
