Beach hair. In our fantasies it’s all Sports Illustrated sexy but in reality for many of us with the combination of surf and wind it’s usually less tousled perfection more tangled mess! Not to mention the damage the salt water and sun can do to our locks over summer. We asked Jana Pana, owner of Marli Rose salon in Sydney’s Alexandria, to reveal her best advice for keeping your hair healthy and looking hot at the beach this summer.
“Start off by putting a UV protectant cream in your hair followed by putting your hair a loose plait,” advises Jana. “The leave in conditioner protects the hair from the sea salt water and the plait keeps the hair from tangling up and creating knots. If you are consistent with this technique your hair will stay nice and health for the summer months.”
Going out for lunch or sunset drinks straight after? Jana says it’s best to keep things simple and embrace the beach texture. “Transforming your beach hair to a suitable going out do can be as simple as scrunching the hair and letting it dry naturally,” says Jana. “Another alternative is pulling the hair back into a high top knot, which is simple but looks chic.”
