Gym class heroes! Designers channel old-school athletic wear at Fashion Week

In a throwback to afternoons spent in PE class, Fashion Week saw designers channel old-school athletic wear. Dion Lee, Christopher Esber and Alex Perry presented straight-from-the-locker-room looks featuring ribbed knits, double stripes and tailored track pants. We loved Perry’s aptly named ‘Varsity’ collection which referenced American college gridiron players. For a fashion-forward take on the trend, take inspo from Dion Lee, who played with proportions by pairing a stripey cropped turtleneck with an oversize bomber jacket. Too warm post-workout? No problem, simply make like the models and tie your outerwear around your waist. On the weekend, swap your running shorts for a high-waisted skater skirt, à la Alessandra Ambrosio at Alex Perry. For night time, follow the Victoria’s Secret angel’s lead and take it up a notch with a killer lace-up ankle boot and bouncy blow-dry.
