How going ‘certified organic’ can change your life

It’s no secret we’re organic enthusiasts in the Sporteluxe office and we love hearing about the latest and greatest organic products on the market.

With Organic Awareness month (September 2015) almost drawing to a close, we chatted to Australian Organic Awareness Month ambassador (and Sporteluxe expert contributor) Dr Kate Wood about her role and how you can make your life more organic by switching to Certified Organic products.

How to make your life more certified organic this month!

Q: What changes to your health and body did you experience when you fully switched to certified organic products?

“I ate a lot of complex carbohydrates as a teenager so when I made the switch to a more Paleo-style organic lifestyle I found my digestion was much better and my bloating totally went away. I slept better, I had more energy and got sick a lot less often.”

Q: How could we all blend more certified organic products into our day?

“Start by adding something healthy or organic before taking something away. As you start to feel the benefits then the changes will happen naturally. I started integrating certified organic with fresh produce first (like fruit, veggies, meat and eggs), then body products, cosmetics and cleaning products. It’s great to ask around as to what brands are not just good for you but also work. The first body products I would replace are sunscreen, deodorant and toothpaste, but these are also the hardest to find products that actually taste nice and actually work. Try Therese Kerr’s Divine range and Wot Not.”

Q: What are your top tips for living a more certified organic life?

1. “Eat food that is fresh, local and in season.”

2. “Avoid eating products with more than five ingredients or ingredients you can’t pronounce.”

3. “If you find it hard to eat 100 per cent certified organic then follow the ‘dirty dozen’ and ‘clean 15’ guidelines as to which fresh produce is essential to eat organic, and which fruits and veggies have less chemicals sprayed on them so are better choices to eat non organic.”

Q: What’s the best thing about being an Australian Organic Awareness Month ambassador?

“I am deeply grateful and feel privileged to be alongside so many amazing health leaders this year as an Australian Organic Awareness Month ambassador. My husband and I live and breathe health. We share our passion through our 11 Health Space Clinics and our whole foods store at Potts Point. Our goal is to make certified organic products more accessible and affordable for the average Australian, and complement that with top quality health care such as chiropractic, physio, acupuncture, massage, kinesiology, sauna’s, float tanks and more. It is a great way to increase awareness and share my knowledge.”

Q: What Certified Organic product can you not live without?

“Therese Kerr’s Divine toothpaste and deodorant.”
