How to beat back to work stress!

This time of year many of us struggle to settle back into the routine of work. It’s all too easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re sitting at your desk post-holidays. So we asked bestselling author and motivational speaker Gabrielle Bernstein, who is currently touring Australia, to share some simple advice for dealing with back to work stress. “Productivity stems from inspiration,” says Gabby. “Find joy in all that you do and focus on that and your tasks will become effortless actions.” She also has a simple meditation tool which can be great to call upon in stressful work moments when you need to calm down and channel a little holiday bliss asap!

Gabrielle’s simple meditation technique

“Meditation can be as simple as finding your pulse,” says Gabby. “This foolproof tool from my book Miracles Now is very easy for meditation newbies. I call it Peace Is in Your Pulse because it improves your concentration and brings calm to even the most scattered mind.” Here’s how to do it!

  • Sit comfortably.
  • Lightly close your eyes and focus on the space between your eyebrows (the third-eye point).
  • The mantra (repeated phrase) is Sat Nam (which means “truth identified”).
  • The hand position (mudra) is simple. Place the four fingers of your right hand on your left wrist and feel your pulse. The fingers are in a straight line, lightly pressed on the wrist so you can feel your pulse in each fingertip.
  • On each beat of your pulse, mentally hear the sound of Sat Nam.

“This meditation can be done anytime, anywhere and you can experience great benefits in just one minute,” says Gabby. “Practice it daily to develop your intuition and calm your mind.”

Gabrielle Bernstein will be touring Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney from 7-10 January. Get your tickets here.
