“Luxury isn’t necessarily expensive,” says interiors stylist and author Mr Jason Grant. “Luxury for me it is all about comfort.” The concept of everyday luxury is something Jason explores in his beautiful new book, Holiday At Home (Hardie Grant; $45). We asked Jason to reveal some of his best-ever styling secrets to help you channel the happiness of vacay everyday!
“Think about your bed linen, bath towels and your sofa,” advises Jason. “How do these materials feel against your skin? Splurge a little on these things for a dose of everyday luxury. I love natural materials such as linen, cotton, canvas and leather. There’s nothing better than a big comfy sofa.”
Make It Personal
“Decorate with what you love,” says Jason. “Your home should make you smile. So personalise your space by decorating it with things that tell a story and mean something to you. Just like your wardrobe your home should reflect your personality.”
“Lighting is the ultimate mood-maker at home,” reveals Jason. “I love natural light by day, sunshine makes me smile! In the evening create ambience with task lighting. Avoid overhead lights. No one wants to feel like they are living in a convenience store! So use floor lamps and decorative side and table lamps to create atmosphere.”
“You cannot underestimate the power of colour,” says Jason. “You can decorate with colour in either big or small ways. Yellow always makes me smile. Think about coloured dining chairs for your table, or try a few pops of colour on you sofas with cushions. Don’t be afraid of a statement piece of art or a colourful floor rug.”
“Bring home your treasured memories and put them on display,” advises Jason. “As with anything it’s all about the edit. Embrace collections and don’t forget to frame your holiday snaps. It’s a great way to remember all your adventures.”
