Want the inside on model skin secrets?

We all know beautiful smooth skin starts from the inside, but it also requires regular maintenance on the outside to keep it looking radiant and fresh. Cleansing and moisturising for your skin type morning and night is a must. But there are a few other small secrets that will keep your skin looking youthful and smooth.

  • Choose products for your skin type. I have combination/oily skin, so I choose foaming cleansers and light moisturisers that tackle oil. A rich cream cleanser on my skin will only make it oilier and produce excess oil which will create pimples.
  • Only use luke warm water when cleansing your skin, then after splash the skin with cool water to close the pores. Closing pores helps to keep the dirt out so no breakouts occur.
  • Gently pat dry your skin with a face towel. The facial skin is very delicate and rubbing will only stretch and irritate the skin.
  • Lightly massage your skin with moisteriser. I massage my skin morning and night. Pop the moisturizer into the palm of your hand first, then gently rub your hands together so the product is on both hands. Now with both of your hands massage your face all over moving in circular motions until the moisturizer has been massaged in. This promotes blood circulation and works the facial muscles to retain skin plumpness. My favourite to use is Dermalogica’s Active Moist.
  • Use a facial scrub. I like to use a coarser scrub as I have a thicker skin type. Using a scrub sloughs away the dead skin cells to reveal the new skin underneath. New skin is always smoother, fresh and always glowing. Try Ella Bache’s Gommage Revitalizer Enzymes De Fruits.
  • Use a Mask once a week in winter and twice a week in summer. My favourite is the Kora Organics Clay Mask. It’s like a detox for the skin. The clay draws out impurities to the surface so my skin looks cleaner and softer.
  • ALWAYS take your makeup off when you head to bed. While you sleep, the skin is actually repairing itself from the previous days exposure to the elements. So having clean skin at night will help to repair.
  • Drink plenty of water. I drink 5 glasses a day, and when I workout I double my water intake. Dehydrated skin is not pleasant. It looks like crepe paper, feels tight and lacks that summer glow. The difference is that drinking water can make you look so many years younger to not drinking water.
  • Stay away from sugary drinks. Sugar is bad for the skin and for the body.
  • Have a good nights sleep. Not only will your eyes be clear and bright, but your skin will be thanking you for letting it sleep too.
  • Use Rose Hip Oil. Rose Hip Oil is fantastic for fading scars, getting rid of any pigmentation and improving surface hydration. A little secret, I had terrible skin growing up which resulted in many scars all over my face. I was hiding behind makeup at every chance I could. I researched and decided to try Rose Hip Oil. I used it morning and night religiously. And guess what? No more scars, but perfect even skin. A good one to try is the Kosmea Rose Hip Oil.
  • Eat Protein! I eat lots of chicken and fish and once a week I will eat red meat. Protein contains the building blocks for the skin to retain plumpness, create new body tissue, antibodies, enzymes and blood cells.
  • Don’t stress. Stress will age your skin creating lines.
  • Limit your intake of alcohol.
  • Be active! Exercise, take up a sport, make regular times to go walking with your friends, take the stairs instead of the escalator, ride a bike. All these small things much a such big difference.
