We sit down with Aussie export Dion Lee to get the inside scoop on his newest Performance capsule collection, exclusively for Target. Reflecting the contemporary woman, the collection will feature day-to-night clothing, active-wear and loungewear.
What was the inspiration in wanting to design a performance range?
I was interested in designing a capsule collection that integrated performance pieces, outerwear and occasion wear. Looking at how modern women dress, there is far more integration these days in how clothes work within a variety of contexts.
Perforated nylon, Ombre Jacquard Knitwear, silk and cotton shirting and bonded neoprene accessories. I have often used technical fabrications and finishes within my own line and was interested in using these elements to inform the design.
Talk to me about the colours and prints that you have used and what made you choose these colours?
The colour pallet was inspired by heat thermal, using warm and cool colours that felt modern and worked within the variety of contexts that the collection was designed for.
How many pieces are in the Dion Lee for Target capsule collection?
35 pieces across apparel and accessories including shoes.
How do you see the health and fitness market merging with the fashion market? Do you think this is (a) trend?
I think health and wellness is a growing movement that alot of people are deeply interested in. It makes sense then for people’s fashion choices to become more integrated with function and comfort, bridging both areas. I also think that the casualisation of dress in the workplace has also allowed for the growth of the performance wear market.
