Our guide to the perfect running event outfit

Today’s the big day. You’ve got your water bottle filled, your fitness tracker charged, your protein snacks ready to go and… your outfit lying on the bed?

If you’re a sports luxe kind of girl, chances are you’ve configured the winning activewear combination when race day comes along. But for most, “have you decided what you’re going to wear?” may not be the question that comes to mind for a sweat-laden event.

A lot of preparation and hard work goes into training for a race, be it a sprint or a marathon. So to ensure you’re left with a photo you are proud to display, we’ve rounded up the trendiest, high performance activewear to create the Sporteluxe guide to the perfect finish-line photo.

Our favourite active wear for a running event:

1. ASICS

Shoe choice is critical for any running event to ensure maximum support where it’s needed the most. We love these fashionable ASICS GEL-Kayano 22 kicks, which are built for the serious runner, protective qualities and comfort. Made with ASICS signature GEL cushioning, these trainers absorb shock as you’re pounding the pavement. Plus this “Lite-Show” edition features high levels of reflectivity in bright, fun colours so there’ll be no confusion over who toed the line first.

2. 2XU

Nervous you’ll be caught at the finish line with odd socks? 2XU have you covered with their new low-cut No Show sock that lies just below the sneaker line so you can show off those flashy kicks and perfect ankle peep. Built with a seamless toe-cage to prevent poke throughs and with extra cushioning in the spots that need it, they are the perfect race day companions.

3. Vie Active

Vie Active tanks are made using their unique, innovative fabric, Merino Perform. This fabric provides superior insulation and breathability, being designed to regulate temperature and moisture while remaining soft on the skin. In other words, it’ll keep you warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s hot, making it ideal for the uncertainties of any big event.

4. Skins

With such flashy kicks, we’d suggest opting for simple, black compression tights, and when it comes to high performance tights, you can’t go wrong with Skins. Available in ¾ and full length, the Skins A400 Starlight tights allow you to go harder for longer by delivering more oxygen to your active muscles. Plus, just like the Tina Racerback, Skins adaptive technology will keep you toasty when it’s cold and cool when it’s sweltering so there’ll be no need to fret about the weather on race day.

5. Adidas

Sweat is the nemesis of a beautiful after-race shot and since it’s highly unlikely you’ll run a marathon or a sprint without breaking a glisten, we recommend picking up a pair of Adidas classic sweatbands. Keep dabbing throughout the race to prevent that dreaded upper lip and forehead condensation and if they’re looking a little used, just throw them off before the snap is taken.

Tip: Don’t be shy with hair spray before any big race day. Not only will it help keep strands out of you eyes while you’re bolting round the track, but it’s a fail-safe way to have your hair intact all the way to the finish line.
