While the weather may feel not feel like it just yet, it’s officially spring here in Australia. Traditionally, the season has always been about new beginnings. So, if you’ve found yourself in a bit of a rut with your diet and exercise lately, it’s the perfect time to hit ‘reset’ and start anew. And if you ask us, these September events, workshops and new launches are the perfect way to kickstart your spring health and fitness routine.
If there’s one Sydney fitness studio that leads the way when it comes to wellness trends, it’s Flow Athletic in Paddington. Not only were they one of the first hybrid studios (offering both strength training, spin, barre and yoga), they’ve pioneered trends like float therapy in Australia. Their latest offering is SMASH Boxing, a boxing-inspired workout incorporating water bags, made famous by Rumble Boxing in NYC. These are tear drop shaped punching bags that are filled with water, which means less joint pain on impact and more positive resistance.

Since opening three years ago, Happy Melon in Victoria’s Armadale has been known as a yoga, Pilates and wellness studio with a strong sense of community. So much so, that they noticed that many of their members had formed close friendships and were looking for healthy places to hang out not only before and after class, but also on a Friday and Saturday evening, over going to bars. So, Happy Melon decided to bring that experience to them, in their gorgeous new cafe and wellness hub. “With this in mind, our space has been designed to feel like a cosy and homely living room, rather than just a café,” says Happy Melon co-founder Simon Davey.
The new space on Willis St. will have a full-time barista serving up coffee from one of Melbourne’s most highly-regarded coffee roasters, Industry Beans, as well as complimentary herbal teas and WIFI. In addition to being able to access the Willis St sanctuary—which is also open to non-Happy Melon members—the space will host regular events, including workshops, book clubs, special guest speakers, gallery openings and charity events.
