February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and with three Australian women diagnosed with ovarian cancer each day, it is definitely a cause that deserves our attention.

The annual campaign is designed to raise awareness, highlight the symptoms of ovarian cancer, honour those women who have died from the disease as well as raise funds for research and treatments.

How to spot the symptoms of ovarian cancer

The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague. So it helps to be aware of what they can include:

  • Changes in your bowel habits
  • Excessive bloating
  • Abdominal or pelvic pain
  • Unexplained weight gain or weight loss
  • Bleeding in-between periods or after menopause
  • Back pain
  • Indigestion or nausea
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Pain during intercourse

If any of these symptoms are persistent and out of character for you, it is advisable to speak to your GP who may recommend about a blood test or internal ultrasound.

How to show your support for ovarian cancer

Want to get behind this great cause? You can donate or purchase any of the teal ribbon products. We also love the idea of getting a few girlfriends together to host a fun Afternoon Teal.

Make a healthy cake, brew some tea and catch up for a good cause!

Love rocking a statement nail? Designer Brands have created a limited edition Colour For a Cause Nail Polish Pack, $6.99. The pack includes two 30 second quick dry polishes, in shades of teal and white and proceeds are donated to Ovarian Cancer Australia. Throughout February, selected Chemmart Pharmacies will also offer in-store manicures in return for a gold coin donation, which will be passed directly onto Ovarian Cancer Australia.
