The Activewear Label Reminding Us That Self-Care Is Not Selfish

You do you, girl.

Self-care is something we talk about quite a bit here at Sporteluxe—and for good reason. As much as we’re all about that #hustle, working hard, excelling in your career, ensuring you’re eating right and exercising regularly, sometimes you just need to take a step back, breathe and just do you (and not feel guilty about it).
This is the premise of Chill by Will’s current campaign, #BECHILL and #BEWILLING. It’s a gentle reminder to listen to your body and find balance in your everyday, and in support of this, we’ve asked some of the team at Sporteluxe HQ in Sydney to share what they do when they’re feeling stressed and how they prioritise self-care. Be sure to keep on scrolling for some of our favourite self-care activities.

“Exercise is my main stress release. If I’ve been stuck inside all day, I will go for a run outside– fresh air makes me feel so relaxed and I love taking in all that nature has to offer. Otherwise, I’ll go to a yoga class. I find that focusing on my breath allows me to become centred again, and slowing it down always brings me back to reality…
… My diet also plays a huge role in my self-care routine I always notice the difference between when I eat well and when I don’t. Nourishing my body with healthy foods doesn’t just help my body, but it also helps my mind. However, I’m all about that #balance life. Eating well to me means having a balanced diet, so getting my veggies in each day, but also saying yes to pizza on a Saturday night!” — Jayme Fechner, Production Assistant

“Hi, my name is Julia and I’m the Queen of Stressing. I overthink everything and put way too much pressure on myself. When I’m feeling particularly stressed about something, I try and think logically about reasons why and how best to overcome it. It’s all about problem solving and putting pen to paper if you have to. I’m generally a private person, so it’s not often I voice what’s on my mind however I do lean on those close to me…
… For me, self-care doesn’t have to be anything drastic. It can be as simple as going for a long coastal walk and grabbing a coffee or spending quality time with my partner at home. Whatever enables me to relax and recharge. Sometimes this involves sweating it out at the gym, other times it’s Netflix and a glass of red wine. As an undergrad nutritionist, I really believe in the importance of listening to the needs of your body.” — Julia Giampietro, Content Manager

“My first port of call is usually talk about it. I’m a big vocaliser of my thoughts, and find talking about it out loud helps correct my thoughts and helps steer me in right direction. Although I wouldn’t classify myself as a “hippy” in the traditional sense; I do rely on regular kinesiology and energy healing sessions to really help positively recharge myself—especially when I’m feeling out of sorts and stressed. If all else fails, I eat. Chocolate is normally the naughty go to, but when I’m really cracking down I’ll only let myself eat healthy snacks… so basically anything food related that satisfies my stressful craving…
… “Exercise is one of the most important day to day self-care activities in my life—being active is my main form of mindfulness. Outside of being active, I place a lot of importance in taking time to go for an infrared sauna or a coastal walk helps me recharge and allows me that ‘me time’ to really switch off from the world. One thing, I didn’t realise was a form of self-care until recently—is really being aware of who I share my energy field with.  Surrounding myself with inspiring and positive people instead of people that don’t play a positive role in my life has helped me build a healthier and happier version of myself. ” — Ally Williams, Australian GM
