This budget-friendly sunglasses brand channels designer style

Le Specs, Sports luxe sunglasses

When the campaign shots for the latest Le Specs sunglasses range recently arrived in the Sporteluxe office, it’s hard to know exactly what caught our attention most first. Was it the model set-ups, channeling that super-cool ‘nineties California’ look that’s so hot right now or the edgy sunglass designs. Honestly, it was probably both.

(Check out these Le Specs Summer 2015 campaign shots below and you’ll know what we mean.)

Either way, it’s pretty clear the classic sunglasses brand, known for it’s wallet-friendly price point since it launched in the 80s, is now stocked in 35 countries and playing with the big guns when it comes to pushing the design envelope.

“The collection this season
is about a nineties Californian look, done with a Le Specs twist,” says Le Specs designer Hamish Tame. “Imagine a young rebellious Drew Barrymore
or Luke Perry wearing grungy round silhouettes, updated with bolder frames, matte finishes and mirrored lenses.”

To us, however, it could just as easily be current style-drivers Gigi Hadad or Alli Simpson (sister of Cody – if you’re not already one of her 1.6m Instagram followers, it’s worth taking a peek… the former Gold Coast girl is now LA-based, has her own Disney radio show and is the hottest thing zeitgeist-wise since, well, Gigi Hadad!) that have inspired the Le Specs 2015 Summer collection.

This campaign may channel a carefree, sophisticated-but-playful beachside California vibe, but anyone who knows Bondi Beach will recognise the familiar Sydney city coastal background in these images, shot by photographer Todd Barry, styled by Jolyon Mason and featuring models Nathaniel Visser and Emily Baker in the 30 new styles for men and women. Euro heritage, California vibe, Sydney location: it’s the ideal global style trinity.

Coincidentally, Gigi’s been spotted in sporting Le Specs shades herself, as have the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, which puts the rest of us enthusiasts in pretty good brand company.
