We all know rock and roll is never dead, in fact, for the past few decades, and to this day, it has paved the way for infamous and iconic bands, branding their way to musical royalty. So if you can’t get no satisfaction, (sorry, we know you’ll have this one ultimately stuck in your head), and playing Guitar Hero as your Saturday night workout is getting old, we found the next best thing to help you channel your inner Joan Jett and unleash that ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb.
A workout without being a workout
You’re focus is shifted on the volume and rhythm of the rock and roll songs blasting through the speakers, while you keep up with the beats and drum your way through twisted crunches. Much like a stress relieving kickboxing session, POUND unleashes the inner beast and let’s you run wild while toning lean muscles and releasing endorphins. It’s all sweaty glows and smiles when you walk out the door, and although we’re not saying it’s the stairway to heaven, by looks of it, we’re not too far off.
“Numerous studies have proven the powerful brain boosting, stress-relieving effects of drumming. The rhythm of drumming permeates the entire brain to improve focus, increase higher-level thinking and decision-making skills, boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, decrease chronic pain, anxiety, and fatigue,” said POUND founders Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom.
The 45 minute workout is the brainchild of music enthusiasts Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom. It involves uses weighted Ripsticks; drumsticks that were specifically designed by their founders to sculpt and tone your arms during the entire session. That, along with mood-boosting tunes and a strong philosophy of balance, encourgament and support. Living hectic lives; complete with demanding careers and an overwhelming social scene, forced the two girls to have a eureka moment that bound them together and gave birth to a pseudo-philosophical, therapeutic workout.
“Life can’t be fully enjoyed without balance and nurturing, and if you give up on self-improvement, at any time, you give up on yourself. There are always improvements to be made. We took this philosophy and applied it to our bodies, our lives and our business.”
POUND workouts are available across California in select gyms and fitness centers. The brand is spreading across the U.S and we can’t help but hope it’ll be reaching Aussie shores soon, cause something tells us we gotta whole lotta love for them (cue Led Zeppelin song).
