Have we reached peak crystal saturation yet? Not quite.
Regardless of whether you believe in their healing properties or if you just like the way they look, colorful gems and minerals are popping up everywhere. From crystal jewelry to crystal water bottles, it’s hip to carry healing stones.
But that’s not where the crystal obsession ends. In fact, many healers and estheticians have started offering crystal-inspired treatments to their more open-minded clients. We tried out two of the most popular crystal beauty trends—here’s what happened.
Traditionally, jade crystals represent luck. As one crystal expert explained to me, “Everything jade touches turns to gold—it’s really lucky.” So what happens when you use a jade stone to massage your face? Well according to ancient Asian royalty, it enhances your beauty like whoa.
Legend has it that empresses used jade rollers regularly to keep their complexions looking youthful and gorgeous. And the good news? While jade rolling facials are offered at many boutique spas locations, the practice is relatively easy to do at home.
It’s simple—apply your product of choice, like a facial oil or lotion, to cleansed skin. Use the roller all over your face to gently massage the treatment into skin, paying extra attention to the jawline and cheekbones.
I had zero clue about what to expect when I showed up to my Crown Chakra Clearing appointment at Andi’s salon in Venice—honestly, I’d heard there was a rose quartz comb and maybe a little reiki involved, and that was pretty much all I knew. After a couple of stressful weeks of life which included a pretty bad breakup and moving houses, I was hoping I’d leave our session feeling clear-minded and balanced.
Part-energy healer, part-hair magician, Andi’s treatments are customized per her client’s needs so everyone has a different experience. Aromatherapy, crystals, tarot, reiki, talk therapy, intuitive readings—nothing’s off limits (as long as you’re OK with it!) once you plop down into her chair.
We started out the session by stating our intentions, and then Andi let me pick two crystals to hold during the appointment. I also pulled a tarot card, which she interpreted for me. Then, she started to work her magic, reading my energy and walking me through a few healing exercises to help me tap into my intuition and clear up any lingering doubts in my mind.
Finally, we got to the haircut! I have to admit, I really love my hair. I’m lucky—it’s pretty thick, air dries nicely, and is generally hands-off. That being said, Andi reminded me that our hair is like a timeline—six inches of growth represents about a year of your life. She held up my battered, fried ends: “This hair represents you from three years ago. Do you want to keep her around?” Nope! We cut the ends off, and Andi gave me a very good haircut.
If you need a trim, color touch up, or need to work through some stuff, I’d highly recommend booking an appointment via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
