In the two-and-a-half years I’ve worked in New York City, I’ve tried well over a hundred fitness classes. Some are great, and have since been worked into my weekly exercise regimen, while others just didn’t do for it me. Bari Studio in TriBeCa, however, is one of my enduring favorites for toning, strengthening, and lengthening the body.
The studio offers several classes—some incorporate trampolining (fun!), while others are dance cardio-based, and “Bari One” (my favorite) is a conditioning workout that uses barre-inspired movements to isolate and tone the glutes, abs, and arms. Named “NYC’s best hybrid workout” by New York Magazine and the “hottest workout” by InStyle, this class is known for crafting sculpted, lean, strong bodies. To share a little more information about the kind of results you can expect from a Bari workout, we chatted with founder Alexandra Bonetti Perez.
Sporteluxe: How many times per week do you recommend clients workout at Bari to see results?
Alexandra Bonetti Perez: I recommend people start with three Bari classes per week. It depends exactly what you’re after, but that usually means a good mix of toning and cardio. Our method balances dance cardio, trampoline cardio and toning for a full body workout like no other. The results? Losing inches, gaining lean muscle, increased endurance and flexibility, and a happier self.
What about more dramatic results?
You’ll see dramatic results with as little as three times a week to start. Your body will transform and you’ll develop a new relationship with your body and your health because the results and benefits are so addictive.
How can class-goers get the most out of their workout?
Our workouts are designed so they’re balanced and full body all the time. One thing you can focus while doing them? Always work from your core. The more connected you are to your core, the more your body will work in sync and use your entire body to accomplish each exercise, which will lead to a true full body workout, regardless of what length workout you’re choosing in studio or online.
If you’re doing Bari regularly and then go away on vacation, how long will it take before you lose that fitness and the other benefits?
You won’t lose the results quickly, but your practice or habit will suffer. Getting back into it will be psychologically hard when you stop working out for a few weeks. I recommend you do our videos while you’re on the road at least a few times a week so your brain doesn’t forget how much it loves and needs the endorphins.
