Would You Use CBD Oil-Infused Makeup?

You don’t have to be a beauty insider to realize that CBD oil is beginning to crop up across the skincare and wellness industry. Now you can buy weed-infused tampons designed to created to help relieve period cramps (yes, this exists), CBD oil-spiked skincare, and weed-infused supplements formulated to calm anxiety. The latest trend in CBD oil beauty? Makeup blended with the stuff.

To wit: Milk Makeup has released a new Kush Mascara ($24) that’s infused with cannabidiol (aka CBD, oil). The compound from the cannabis plant that’s becoming increasingly popular in the health, wellness, and, yes, beauty space. Not to be confused with THC—the cannabis compound that gives marijuana its psychotropic properties—CBD oil can purportedly ease muscle aches and help with insomnia, among other claims. Still, the research is limited, particularly when it comes to CBD oil’s skin care perks. Only a handful of studies have been conducted, and we’re currently in the honeymoon stage, meaning the risks haven’t really been tested or addressed.

So, why coat your lashes in the stuff? Milk Makeup wanted to create a vegan mascara, which means they couldn’t use beeswax, a natural binding ingredient that’s commonly used in mascara formulas. It’s where the cannabis comes in to give the mascara a creamy finish that applies smoothly on lashes and removes easily when you want to take it off at the end of the day. It’s also supposed to be super hydrating and thickening and fuses heart-shaped fibers to lashes for thickness without any fallout. The reviews online suggest this product might also live up to its claims: one customer wrote “it made my eyelashes look BOMB” while another said “Haven’t found a mascara like this in forever. Full lashes and longer lashes exactly what I was looking for!”

We’ve got to mention that Milk Makeup isn’t the only brand bringing CBD oil to cosmetics (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics has a liquid lipstick ($15) made with hemp CBD oil) along with many others.
