5 secrets for the perfect at-home blowout
Invest in the right tools
McMahon, Wild and Love stress the importance of using quality tools to ensure the best results and less drying time (yes, please!). Your two go-tos should be a hairdryer and medium sized round soft bristled brush.
Make sure your hair isn’t too wet
“Squeeze the water out of your hair to remove access water. Never rub the hair as this will damage the cuticle,” warns Wild.
We suggest a using an absorbent hair towel like Acquis’ Lisse Luxe Hair Towel to avoid unwanted frizz. Then, spritz your hair with a heat protectant spray before blow drying to avoid heat damage, help detangle your hair and add shine.
Divide and conquer
“Be sure to section your hair. Always start underneath using your brush and keep the nozzle pointing downwards. Make sure you dry the hair thoroughly before you take your next section,” advises Wild.
Although it may take you longer, smaller sections will give you more control over the style you’re trying to create – just think of the upper arm strength!
Use the right products for your hair type
If you’ve got fine hair, opt for a volumizing mist, but if you’ve got a thicker mane, stick to a hair oil to nourish dry ends, suggests McMahon. Just be aware of your product placement and the amount you use (minimal product for maximum effect), says Love. Work oil from mid-lengths to the ends to avoid limp, oily-looking locks. If you’re using volume boosting products, it’s important to keep these towards the roots to create the most lift.
Be aware of the three p’s
“Patience, practise and perseverance are all essential when it comes to blow drying your hair, especially if you’re trying to break old habits,” says Love.
