All dermatologists agree on one thing: sun protection is the best way to keep your skin healthy and youthful. Of course, there’s more than one way to protect yourself from harmful UV rays, but we’re particularly interested in the statement-making accessory influencers and models—Bella Hadid included—are using to keep shady this summer: a supersized straw hat.
Last week, Hadid posted a photo of herself on the beach in Mexico wearing an extra-extra large straw hat (and not much else), along with the cheeky caption: “In my leisure suite.” It made us start paying attention to all of the other stylish women getting on board with the bigger-is-better sun accessories mantra.
In fact, gigantic sun hats are quickly becoming the most Instagrammable beach accessory this summer thanks to French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, who launched a whole lot of hat for the Spring 2018 La Bomba collection. However, while this is the brand Hadid turned to for her colossal-size topper, Simon Porte Jacquemus definitely isn’t the only brand drive the head-turning trend. (It’s a good thing too; the Hadid-endorsed piece will set you back over $600.)
Other, more affordable brands, like Lack of Color have also released enormous toppers that have since exploded across Instagram this spring.

The French brand’s statement-making straw hat was first spotted on the runway at Paris Fashion Week and then on supermodel and It-girl, Bella Hadid.
