Victoria’s Secret angel Romee Strijd likely owes most of her good looks to genetics, but she also has a fairly regimented fitness, food, and beauty routine that she swears helps her to look this damn good. While chatting over lunch with Sporteluxe last week, Strijd shared her secrets: like applying a face mask while you make your morning coffee, face-misting throughout the day to keep your skin looking fresh and dewy, and putting your jade roller in the fridge and using it to de-puff tired eyes. This stuff isn’t rocket science, but it is super-model approved—and if it’s good enough for Romee Strijd, it’s certainly worth considering. Mask in the morning.
Despite the fact Strijd has access to any beauty product she could possibly want, she sticks to a fairly simple routine: “I have a pretty easy beauty routine I have to say. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I splash cold water on my face, and then I make a coffee downstairs.” However, while her coffee’s brewing she does use a face mask applied with a Dr. Jart+ Liftra Contour Shaper and leaves it for about 15 minutes before washing her face, applying Embryolisse moisturizer, and getting ready for the day.
Eat a superfood and probiotic-packed breakfast.
You don’t look like Romee Strijd by eating your average supermarket cereal for breakfast. Instead, she starts her day with “yogurt with goji berries and nuts and fruit and a spoon of peanut butter. Or oatmeal with my chocolate whey protein.”
Switch your foundation to a tinted moisturizer.
Less is more, according to Strijd—particularly when it comes to your makeup. The supermodel swears by her Laura Mercier coverup: “It’s more like a tinted moisturizer because whenever it gets too thick I don’t really like that,” she explained.
Use a beauty blender for your foundation or tinted moisturizer.
Strijd swears by her “little pink sponge” (aka Beauty Blender) for applying her tinted foundation each morning. She says it helps her get an even coverage that lasts for hours.
Drink a protein shake after you work out.
Chugging a protein shake after your work out can help boost the results of your exercise. Specifically, this supermodel prefers whey protein. “There are different stories about [whey], but it helps me workout and build up some muscle,” she shrugged in explanation.
She has hers first thing in the morning because she feels it’s “important to refuel your muscles” and also after a workout.
Face mist throughout the day.
Whenever you’re feeling a little lackluster throughout the day, reach into your handbag and pull out a face mist, the model suggests. Her favorite? Caudalie Beauty Elixir. “It’s a mint mist, which makes you feel really fresh,” she told us.
Choose protein-filled lunch and dinner recipes.
Strijd’s go-to lunch includes “protein with some carbs and vegetables” like a chicken salad, while for dinner she loves “a good grill salmon and grill vegetables and avocado and some brown rice.”
Remove your makeup every night, religiously, and moisturize like crazy.
The one beauty step Strijd says she never skips is thoroughly removing her makeup every night. “I take off my makeup with Bioderma [wipes], and then I take a shower and put on the Embryolisse moisturizer again,” she said.
Take a jump rope with you when you travel.
Just because she’s traveling often doesn’t mean Strijd skips out on her workout routine. When she’s not weight lifting at Dogpound in New York City, she uses a jump rope in her hotel room to burn calories.
Use a jade roller under your eyes to combat puffiness.
While she admitted to often forgetting to apply an eye cream, Strijd does have a secret weapon to combat tired, puffy eyes: “I found this [jade] roller, you put it in the fridge, and then in the morning when you are super tired, you put the roller. You can put on your eyes or under. I got [mine] from China. It’s really good, feel so cold and fresh.”
Swap smoothies for immunity-boosting shots.
OK, we were surprised with Strijd told us “I am not really into smoothies,” but it made a little more sense when she told us about her healthy drink of choice. “I sometimes take those shots with really strong ginger and cayenne. I feel like it’s good for your immune system.” Preach, Romee! Ginger and cayenne shots—often also mixed with lemon juice—are great for your immune system and overall health.
