Music can make or break a workout—particularly when you’re slogging it out on the treadmill or pushing yourself through a long-distance run. If you exercise regularly, it’s easy to get bored with your workout playlists after just a few sessions—and curating new lists with rhythms that match your run pace takes time and effort.
Now, Spotify’s trying to solve that problem with a brand new feature. In partnership with financial services group John Hancock, the app will now customize the perfect running playlist for you based on your taste in music and how fast you’re running. From today until just after the 2018 Boston Marathon, on April 20, you can visit runeliteplaylist.com to find your own personalized playlist.
To begin, simply enter some information about your run by selecting an approximate pace from “relaxed” (15 minutes per mile) to “intense” (five minutes per mile). Next, move the following slider to indicate how long you will be running, from four hours (!) to one hour.
After entering some information about your run, the site connects you to Spotify and delivers the perfect running mix. After predicting running for one hour at 10 miles per hour, we were served up a playlist packed with songs by Mary J. Blige, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Art Garfunkel, and a bunch of other artists across different genres.
The feature is free to use, so even if the playlists don’t offer your usual workout lineup, it’s definitely worth trying.
