5 Meditation Apps That’ll Help Keep You Calm

With the arrival of meditation hubs and meditation booths popping up across the country, it’s no shocker that meditation is not going anywhere. Once heralded as a brand new up-and-coming boutique fitness concept, meditation has expanded to become a regular staple of our health and wellness routine, right along with foam rolling and recovery massages. And while we may not always think that peacefulness and technology go hand in hand, meditation apps make for some of the most accessible ways to stay calm and centered.

Here are our favorite meditation apps that you can download, set up, and listen to on your commute to work every morning:

1. Headspace

For $12.99 per month or $94.99 per year, Headspace is one of the most popular guided meditation apps on the market today. It offers listeners hundreds of meditations and daily meditations that focus on a different topic each day. The app also offers “SOS” sessions for extra stressful moments that’ll help guide you through anxiety and panic attacks.

2. Stop, Breathe & Think

As the 2017 Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Health App, Stop, Breathe & Think has more than 30 free and 85 premium sessions that also come with a recommended meditation of the day. Before and after each meditation, you’re encouraged to log your emotions as a pre- and post-session check-in that will help you track your progress over time.

3. Calm

A great app for beginners because it helps to introduce you to the world of meditation in the first place, Calm gives you new daily 10-minute calm meditations to start of end your day. More than that, the app provides more than 80 sleep stories because adults need bedtime stories, too.

4. Inscape

With a mediation studio in New York City’s Flatiron neighborhood, Inscape’s app lets you enjoy the meditations offered in-studio but on your phone. The best part, you can log all of your progress in a practice journal that’ll keep a record of your work over time.

5. Aura

Kick off your day with a free three-minute guided meditation session each day (which, pro tip: you can save to listen to again later), or opt for an unguided meditation that brings the sounds of nature to the concrete jungle, or wherever else you may be.
