Why getting out of your comfort zone is great for your health

I’m a total sucker for inspirational quotes. I have them framed as artwork at home, pinned on my vision board and can’t help but press like when they come up on my Insta feed. One of my favourites is that saying about how life begins at the edge of your comfort zone. Yes, it’s kind of a cliché but it’s also so incredibly true.

I’m a big believer in the benefits of pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and trying new things. Sure, this can take the form of something seriously scary such as jumping out of a plane (which I did a couple of years ago and count as one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had) but it can also be applied to your day-to-day life. That could mean expanding your consciousness with meditation, taking yourself off on a weekend adventure, setting your alarm early to watch the sunrise, mixing up your diet and surprising your body with new healthy foods or breaking up your training regime. The form it takes doesn’t matter as much as the intention of trying something new. And the end result is always that you feel more alive and energised.

Which is why I love the #NOFEAR concept Fitness First has come up with for their Fitness Week. I’ll be taking up the challenge this week and venturing beyond the hot yoga and HIIT workouts I usually like to do at Fitness First in favour of some new classes. Maybe I’ll do some booty shaking moves in a Zumba class or some butt kicking boxing. Whatever I do I know it will be a fun adventure!

I hope you all have a fantastic week!
