Ballet isn’t necessarily the first word you would associate with female empowerment. However, Misty Copeland isn’t your typical ballerina. The California born, now New York based dancer has overcome setbacks and adversity to become the first African American soloist with the American Ballet Theatre in two decades. A journey which is highlighted by her incredible new video for US sports brand Under Armour, available exclusively at rebel in Australia.
Just like Misty herself the video represents a perfect combination of athleticism, modern girl power and stunning beauty. So we’re not surprised that it’s gone viral this week – it’s already been watched over four million times in a couple of days! Watching the video all of us here at Sporteluxe were totally inspired so we just had to share it with you, along with some of Misty’s fave Under Armour pieces.
“A lot of people think of dance as a frivolous thing, that you just get on the stage and twirl around. But the commercial shows the physicality of what it takes to be a dancer, and to be a professional ballerina. It gives us the respect that we are just as hardworking as any athlete.” – Misty Copeland
