Tousled tresses are having a major moment right now as seen on models at Valentino, Pucci and Narciso Rodriguez. We asked Jana Pana, owner of Marli Rose salon in Sydney’s Alexandria, to give us the lowdown on how to take this hot hair trend from runway to real way.
“What I love about this look is that it is very relaxed yet sexy,” says Jana. “This is a perfect hairstyle for summer because it doesn’t require too much time and maintenance.”
How to get the look
“The great thing about this hairstyle is that it can be created when you wake up with bed hair, just get out of the shower or naturally after a day at the beach,” says Jana.
If your hair is wet Jana recommends “adding some Moroccanoil to the ends” then letting your hair dry naturally. “Moroccanoil is a good product to use as it keeps frizz out and keeps the hair looking smooth,” says Jana. “Once the hair is about 70% dry you need to add some leave-in beach spray and work that into the hair to give you that effortless natural wave.” Applying some Morrocanoil after a swim in the ocean will create a similar effect.
And if you’ve just woken up with bed hair it’s even easier to achieve a tousled look. “If your hair is still quite messy looking all you need to do is add a few loose ghd curls in the hair, working from the front to the back,” says Jana. “Once you have added the curls you need to brush them all out to create a messy wave which should last a few days without losing its shape. To maintain this wave in the hair all you need to add is a light matt putty cream and scrunch it in. This adds all the texture back into the hair that it may have been lost through the day or from a night’s sleep.”
